Percentage of Current user (Eligible Couple) of Family Planning Methods

Percentage of current user (eligible couple) of family planning methods (X3):  This variable directly and positively affects the growth of the population. Higher the current users of family planning, better is the performance of the district. The current user (any method) reported in the RCH survey stands as 48.1 percent for the country. The highest percentage of the current users was recorded in Tripura (77.8 percent) while the lowest percentage was recorded in Meghalaya (13 per cent). The use of family planning methods in three bigger states Bihar (22.2 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (30.0 per cent), and Rajasthan (36.6 per cent) is quite low. In case of districts the highest percentage of the current user of the family planning method was recorded in the Nalbari district in Assam (83.70 per cent), followed by Idduki district in Kerala (81.8 per cent), and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal (81.6 per cent). The lowest percentage of the users of family planning was recorded in the Karbianglong district in Assam (1.70 percent). 

The upper limit of current users of family planning is fixed at 83.70 and the lower limit at 1.70. The index is computed as under 

Index3 = 100*(X3 – 1.7)/(83.7-1.7) 

            = 100*(X3 – 1.7)/82 

X3 is the percent of current users of family planning method in a particular district. Higher the users of family planning method in district, higher the index value.
